POSITION:            Management Accountant (9 Months Contract)

Main Purpose of the job: To provide a professional management accounting service to designated business units/operation enabling cost effective financial planning, cost control, month end reporting and variance analysis useful for decision making plus providing the Company with Financial Control and advisory services

Manage financial planning and reporting of the business unit/operation

·         Manage and consolidate the Business Unit’s/operation budgets and financial business plans. Management and execution of budgetary process
·         Set targets through analysis, scenario planning and feasibility studies for the Business Units/operation
·         Assist managers with preparation of operational budgets and forecasts
·         Manage the preparation, review and consolidation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts
·         Management of budgetary process for SSC and Cost Centres
·         Load budgets into SAP and verify that budget information in SAP ties back to budget models (BPC)
·         Load relevant KE30 sales and costing details for the business unit
·         Review and maintain reporting in line with HARP
·         Attend to subsidiary statutory matters (Annual Financial Statements and Taxation)
·         Prepare and assist with quarterly board papers and informal business unit meetings
·         Analysis of the efficiency of financial processes and procedures with the aim of optimising efficiencies

Manage month end procedures and reporting of the business unit’s/operation’s results

·         Conduct month-end costing and variance analysis for the Business Unit/Operation
·         Management reporting, variance analysis and resolution
·         Management accounting service for the Business Unit/operation and Subsidiaries
·         Run/Create/Amend SAP assessments
·         Allocate/reallocate costs/transactions
·         Coordinate collection of information from business unit
·         Validation of results from BW, BPC and KE30
·         Review trail balances of cement operations and investigate, resolve long outstanding matters. Validate the integrity of the SAP system
·         Provide an internal audit review on the sales system ensuring amongst others that rebates are correctly calculated
·         Calculate and park journal entries relating to rebates
·         Assist Depot managers with the implementation of business processes relating to asset registers, insurance and controls.
·         Provide an internal audit review on the depots
·         Prepare ad-hoc information required for Starcomms/KPI scorecards for business unit/operation

Continuous improvement

·         Develop and maintain accurate reports to facilitate decision making and generate value to users
·         Develop and maintain reports on BW and BPC

Control asset, inventory and GL Accounts

·         Asset register for the region updated, and disposals processed accurately
·         Follow up on open WIP to ensure timely closures
·         All GL accounts, including inventory accounts for the region are reconciled and cleared off on a monthly basis

Manage and perform all costing and system processes

·         All costs are correctly allocated on the income statement
·         Items on the GL are correctly posted to the income statement
·         GL accounts are cleared with no long-outstanding items
·         Journals are prepared for posting by manager
·         Approval of journals parked
·         Assessment runs are done and cost centre reports reflects zero balances
·         Statistical key figures are captured
·         Authorise requisitions/EFT/travel advances as required within agreed upon authorisation limits

Conduct system and procedure audits

·         An audit plan for the area is developed and implemented
·         All operations to be subjected to an audit at least twice a year
·         After each plant audit, an audit report is compiled which identifies internal control transgressions, weaknesses and recommends steps to minimize risks
·         All reconciliations checked and long outstanding items investigated
·         Internal audit teams are assisted
·         Comments on internal audit reports circulated to management and assist managers with comments
·         Recommendations from internal audit reports are brought to managers intention
·         Implementation of internal audit recommendations and managerial actions are followed up and confirmed

Implement and propose safe and appropriate working practices

·         Initiate, maintain and execute work duties in accordance with company policy, procedures, work instructions and risk management system standards

Provide Financial Advice and Consulting

·         Receive a request for advice/consultation and analyse to determine the nature and extent of the advice/consultation to be provided; or

Identify advice/consultation opportunities during the execution of outputs, e.g.

Ø  Possible problems
Ø  Pro-active identification of problem areas
Ø  Advice on financial control and processes
Ø  Financial studies, e.g. Feasibility Studies
·         Determine the outcomes of the advisory/consultation process in collaboration with the requestor/identified needs to ensure customer satisfaction
·         Identify the information/resolution required by the relevant role players
·         Agree to the time frames for execution of advice/consultation actions
·         Conduct the appropriate research to obtain the necessary information required; or
·         Escalate the problem to the relevant role players for resolution and monitor to ensure that advice/consultation is provided within the allocated time frames
·         Conduct meetings with the appropriate role players/regulatory bodies to ensure that all relevant information is supplied

Compile a preliminary report reflecting:

Ø  Recommendations
Ø  Risks
Ø  Organisational position
·         Set-up a meeting/workshop with the requestor and associated role players to discuss/workshop recommendations/findings
·         Set-up action plans in collaboration with the requestor and associates role players to implement the required actions
·         Provide expert advice/consultation to ensure compliance to the legal framework
·         Compile a final recommendation report for the implementation of the actions and its requirements
·         Assist the appropriate parties with the implementation of the required actions
·         Monitor the implemented actions to ensure correct execution and legal compliance
·         Archive the final report is archived for future reference purposes in accordance with the documentation management system requirements
·         Provide Advice/consultation in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
·         Complete Advice/consultation actions within the allocated time frame


·         Relevant 4 Year Qualification, e.g.
o   C.I.M.A / B.Com (Financial Accounting/Accounting)
o   CASA will be advantageous
·         5 years’ experience in a Corporate Financial Environment, within the mining/manufacturing industry
·         SAP knowledge (FICO)
